Members of that committee, however, say it is not high on their list of priorities. The bill calls for the Twins and other private sources to pay half the cost of the stadium. In addition, the Twins would guarantee repayment of a $100-million interest-free loan from the state. The stadium would also benefit from a $40-million state grant and a $10-million break in sales taxes on construction materials.
Twins officials issued a statement saying they are pleased the bill cleared the first hurdle, and argue the bill calls for 83% of the cost of the ballpark will be privately financed.
