Also in the works for the zoo, which has not been significantly updated since 1976, are a new administrative office building and a for-rent, 13,000-square foot event center.
Plans for the parking garage were the center of attraction when the initial environmental impact statement was released to the public yesterday. The garage would be no more than five levels with vegetation used to soften its appearance.
A huge city park borders the popular zoo. Local residents have complained for years about the number of cars clogging narrow streets and have asked the city for a parking solution.
