Now, the old Vail Mansion is being reborn as an upscale 101-room boutique hotel by the Applied Cos., based in Hoboken, NJ. Under a plan being developed by architects Brennan Beer Gorman, the original 20,000-sf structure will be expanded by 100,000 sf. The existing Palladian architecture will be reflected by two new wings flanking the building, according to Applied principal Michael Barry.
Groundbreaking is expected in mid-summer for the renovation/expansion. Besides the guest rooms, the property will include a large ballroom, conference center, dining facilities, a health club and formal gardens. Because of a 25-foot drop in elevation at the rear of the site, the developer will be able to insert a five-story addition that appears as two three-story flanking pavilions.
