Stallings failed to recuse herself on votes involving the proposed new ballpark, despite having received gifts from Padres majority owner John Moores. Her district includes the Bay Park, Clairemont, Linda Vista,Mission Valley, Mission Village, Pacific Beach and Serra Mesa neighborhoods.

A runoff will be held between the two leading candidates June 5 if no one receives more than 50% of the vote.

The candidates include: Kim Cox, an administrative hearing officer for the city of San Diego; small-business owner James J. Morrison; Steve Danon, chief of staff for county Supervisor Ron Roberts; Donna Frye, co-owner of Skip Frye Surfboards; attorney Donald Mayes, Larry L. Murray, businessman; Peter Navarro, economics professor; Michael J.Pallamary, community leader; Rick Richard, community member; Gary Rotto, executive director of the American Jewish Committee; and Tom Switzer, entrepreneur and businessman.
