Mark Welch, formerly of L&B Realty Advisors Inc. in Dallas, is assuming some of the duties of Tom Mason, executive vice president and wearer of many hats for the Hillwood team. Welch has 19 years in the financial sector of commercial real estate. He had joined Hillwood in November 2000. With the new title, he will oversee all finance and accounting and is being touted as a critical player in business planning for the operation's US and global projects.

"As we grew, we just became so big that Tom couldn't do it all by himself," Mike Berry, Hillwood president, tells GlobeSt.com. He says the restructuring is now complete for the corporate, executive and operating units of Hillwood. "We're pretty well defined now in the key areas," he says.

According to Berry, Mason had been acting in the roles of CFO, chief administrative office and treasurer. His most time-intensive responsibility has been lender relationships. Welch's appointment, says Berry, is actually just the "official sanctioning" of the CFO position.

Welch's experience includes L&B Realty's predecessor company, The Lehndorff USA Group. He has served in positions such as controller, CFO, executive vice president and asset manager. He also has worked as an audit manager for Arthur Anderson & Co.

While at L&B, Welch had helped lead a spin-off of a profitable division into a public company and had been instrumental in closing two key corporate acquisitions. He also had closed $385 million in mortgage financings.
