The Tucson office will operate as a Grubb & Ellis affiliate under the ownership of Ronald C. Scholl, a shopping center developer who runs Westar Partners LLC. All parties are hushed about the price tag. Scholl had worked at the Tucson office of Grubb & Ellis for nearly six years starting in 1978 when the office first opened.
As part of the sale, the firm's office will move from Williams Centre to an office building at 3434 E. Broadway Rd., which is adjacent to the El Con Mall. Scholl says he plans to expand the sales force in the next few months.
As an affiliate, the Tucson office will have access to the national firm's marketing research and other support functions in exchange for an annual fee, Scholl says. Grubb & Ellis has nearly 40 affiliates in smaller real estate markets across the United State, and some in Mexico.
During the past year, several of Grubb's highest profile brokers have left the firm, including Tim Prouty, who headed up an affiliate office of CB Richard Ellis, and 17-year veteran Paul Schloss, a former retail broker and senior vice president. Schloss is now a partner at Bourn Partners LLC, a brokerage arm of a local development firm, Bourn Properties Inc.
The sale of Grubb & Ellis is the second national firm to reshuffle its structure in Tucson. In September, CB Richard Ellis changed from national ownership to more of a partnership position with the leading brokers in the firm.
