The aim of the listing is really two-fold. The first is that it provides any interested party with the means of tracking sites to follow their progress. Second and perhaps most important, the service is aimed at providing potential developers with a way to find sites to redevelop. Indeed, DEP's Remediation Program is spelled out at a linked site, www.state.nj.us/dep/srp/index.htm.
The latest list of contaminated sites is part of a DEP report called "Known Contaminated Sites in New Jersey." The range of sites listed includes everything from small spills and leaking tanks, to massive waste dumps covered under the Federal Superfund program.
