The three-year-old Council for Sustainable Florida, a non-profit, Tallahassee, FL-based consortium of corporate and government executives, handed out the awards.

In metro Orlando, the city and Kha Le Huu & Partners were picked for outstanding performance last year. Engineering firm Miller Sellen Conner & Walsh Inc. was among the winners in the leadership category. Another engineering firm, Ardaman & Associates Inc., won in the initiative column.

Other statewide winners in the outstanding performance category were Cargil Fertilizer, Riverview, FL; Florida Department of Environmental Protection--Clean Boating Partnership, Tallahassee; Gulf Power Co., Pensacola, FL; Montenay Power Corp., Miami; Motorola Inc., Plantation, FL; and Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners--Pinellas Star Center.

Leadership category winners were Escambia County-Bayou Chico Restoration; Fort Pierce Utilities Authority; Hillsborough River Greenways Task Force--Frog Listening Network; HydroMentia Inc., Ocala, FL; Marie Selby Botanical Gardens Inc., Sarasota, FL; Metropolitan Environmental Training Alliance, Orlando; Seminole Electric Cooperative Inc., Tampa, FL; and Terrabrook/Westchase, Tampa.

Cited in the initiative column were the Economic and Environmental Consensus Committee, Tallahassee; Indian RiverSide Alliance Inc., Stuart, FL; and St. Andrews Waterfront Partnership, Panama City, FL.
