Interviews are under way of the three that have made the county's "short list." Jim Barr, Travis County project manager and selection committee chairman, says those making the final cut are Morales & Associates, which is teaming with the Barr Co.; Croslin & Associates in a teaming with Haas Architects; and Aguirre, all Austin area architecture firms. Nine area architects had submitted proposals for the project. The five-member review committee consists of employees in the Travis County facilities and purchasing departments.
The Precinct IV Office Building will be constructed along McKinney Falls Parkway near the Austin Bergstrom International Airport. The acreage is situated in a primarily industrial area, with few office buildings and none sporting the high-profile designs indicative of the state capital skyline.
Barr tells GlobeSt.com that the project is at least a year away from delivery. The winning architectural team will have 120 days to submit renderings and then it's off to a county review for fine-tuning. He says the preliminary plan calls for a two-story building in the neighborhood of 60,000 sf. The Precinct IV structure will provide offices for a justice of the peace, constable and community supervision and corrections.
