Slough has built nearly 3 million sf of logistics warehousing around Paris over the last five years for occupiers including Sony, Decathlon, Geodis and La Poste. Now work has begun on a 485,000 sf scheme at Saint Fargeau, to the south of Paris and Mory Team has taken a pre-letting of the first building of 260,000 sf, due for delivery in July 2001.
At the same time work is under way on a 540,000 sf distribution complex at Bornem, between Brussels and Antwerp, in Belgium, with completion of the first building due in October 2001. And at Kapellen, between Dsseldorf and Mönchengladbach in Germany, 250,000 sf is under construction with completion due in November 2001. Both schemes have been launched on a speculative basis. A further 860,000 sf scheme is due to be started at Rumst in Belgium before the end of the year.
Slough Estates Executive Director David Simons said: 'Logistics has proved to be a growth area in France in recent years. However, in Belgium and Germany, this expansion has yet to take place. The existing buildings in these areas are not suited to modern logistics requirements and our aim is to respond to this demand for top quality warehousing by providing new facilities, available to lease, in prime locations.'
