The city's redevelopment agency has signed a lease for nine waterfront acres with Lighthouse Fast Ferry, based in land-locked West Caldwell, NJ. The site until recently belonged to International Group Petroleum, which had turned it over to the city for possible redevelopment. Service will be provided from an existing ferry slip, inactive for nearly four decades, that was recently renovated by the Waterfront Association to Effect Restoration. A city grant of $1 million sparked the effort.
According to Lighthouse Fast Ferry officials, outbound service will make stops at Wall Street and East 34th Street in Manhattan. The company also expects to initiate special event-related tours.
