The Clermont, FL-based company is asking the county's planning and zoning board July 2 for permission to grow its business by 240 acres. The county rejected a similar expansion request in 1998.
Tarmac has been supplying Central Florida contractors and developers with concrete building materials for 30 years. To placate homeowners' complaints of noise, the company has planted 15-foot tall pine trees as a buffer.
Residents also complain Tarmac draws six million gallons of water daily from the Florida Aquifier system, allegedly straining the entire water supply in the state. Tarmac denies the allegations.
