The city wants to open satellite centers in John Landes Park in the Tri-City area, North River Road Park in the San Luis Rey Valley and in the City Operations Center. The centers will offer meals, meeting space, classes, and other programs.

The council was scheduled last night to consider appropriating $150,000 for the new senior programs as part of adjustments to the city's 2001-2002 budget. Staff will look for a larger building to lease and eventually build a permanent center, estimated to cost between $2.9 million and $3.5 million.

Council members said they wanted that center to be near Oceanside Boulevard and Temple Heights Road, where several industrial buildings are available.
