The company has stated that once it sells the 128-acre park, it will lease back the space it needs here. 3com also intends to sell its facilities in Mount Prospect, Illinois and a portion of its headquarters' campus in Santa Clara, California.
The Singapore facility will transition to become 3Com's Asia-Pacific regional distribution center, and will also include the company's Singapore and South Asia regional sales management, IT training and customer service and support operations. In a released statement, Bruce Claflin, 3Com's president and CEO, says, "Letting Flextronics do what it does best allows 3Com to do what it does best."
The company has not yet stated how much space it intends to lease here or how many people would be employed here. In May, in reaction to the downturn in the high tech industry, 3Com announced that it would eliminate 3,000 jobs, or 30%, of its total work force of 10,000.
