It would add about $500,000 to the 2001-02 fiscal year budget, which starts in July, and about $900,000 per year after that. The city would use the extra money to help pay for police services, transportation services, street maintenance and other city projects.

Councilors recently postponed the first reading of the ordinance from the first week in July to the third (July 18) in order to allow for people to hear about the proposal. The Council also decided to leave the public record open through the first week in July in order to hear more opinions.
