The current five-member Lake County commission is generally perceived as being pro-development. There are only 210,528 residents in the entire county, according to last U.S. Census.
Tavares, the county seat (Pop. 9,700), is 35 miles northwest of Downtown Orlando. There are 1,400 lakes in the county.
