Under Chapter 40B of the law, municipalities can count mobile homes and apartments where state-subsidized tenants live as affordable housing allowing approximately 70 additional communities to make it over the 10% mark without building any additional affordable housing. The amendment was part of an omnibus housing bill and was passed by the House.
The bill still needs to pass through the Senate and then the Governor's office. It is nuclear whether Governor Jane Swift will sign the bill but reportedly she is not pleased with this amendment.
