Proceeds from the sale would go to constructing training facilities for the city's fire department. Reportedly, the city would use the commercial development exemption allowed under state law that would enable the city to go through a modified public process in selling the site and negotiating with developers.

Environmental testing and land surveys on the site have been authorized and the site could be put out to bid by early next month. The city council is to vote on the plan shortly.
