By mid-2002 Grapevine Mills will be up and running with its newest, and what could prove to be hottest, entertainment venue. Atlanta's November rollout is the first off the bench followed by Baltimore/Washington, DC and Philadelphia. By the close of 2002, four will be online and others on the drawing boards or under construction for Mills mega-malls.
X Games parks will support skateboarding, bike stunt riding and in-line skating. "Skateparks are the ball fields of the 21st century," says Ron Semiao, EXPN's vice president and programming and managing director. "Working with industry leaders like Mills and Woodward, X Games Skateparks will be an ultimate action sports haven within the popular Mills locations where potential X Games athletes can hone their skills, interact with pro athletes, watch top exhibitions or pick up the latest products and equipment." The parks--designed with ramps, halfpipes and bowls--also will contain 40,000 sf to 50,000 sf of action sports and X Games memorabilia. A mid-2002 opening is planned for the Grapevine Mills skatepark.
