But when the announcement was made that he was the hired as the senior vice president of the Trammell Crow Co. in Denver, he wasn't here.
Instead, he was driving back to the East Coast for a memorial service.
His brother-in -law and that man's brother worked for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 105th floor of the north tower of the World Trade Center. They are believed to be among the 700 unaccounted members of the firm who are presumed dead, following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11.
''We're mourning for our personal loss, we're mourning for people we know who knew people,'' Hackett tells GlobeSt.com in a cell phone interview. ''In New York, there's no six degrees of separation. It's a one-degree of separation. It's a terrible thing.''
Hackett tells GlobeSt.com he was extremely close to the victims in his family.
''We'll press on with our lives, but a little piece of us will always be missing. We'll mourn, we'll laugh and we'll always remember.''
