The source notes that the city would like to have the school at this site but has met with opposition from the city's conservation commission because of the wetlands on the site. The opponents to the Belmont Hill site reportedly contend that the city did not look into enough alternatives for siting the school.
The city manager Thomas Hoover was not available but in a recent report he states that over 50 sites were considered for the school and Belmont Hill is the best site for the school. The 21 acres where the school would be built is city-owned land. The former Belmont Home and Worcester Technical Institute are situated on this land.
