A handful of leading brokers have mixed opinions about the insider talk that Insignia is wooing Baker Commercial. Some say yes, some say maybe, but no one says no.
Late last week, Insignia's Randy Cooper told GlobeSt.com that a major play of some type was pending and would close this week. GlobeSt.com learned it was an acquisition and that follows true to Insignia action of a few years back when it went on a nationwide buying spree of brokerage houses with strong office portfolios.
Cooper yesterday said the major play, without providing details, should be finalized by Tuesday. Then, the parties will talk. Phil Baker, president of Baker Commercial, has not returned repeated telephone calls to verify or dispute the scuttlebutt.
Baker Commercial, founded in 1992, is a 17-broker firm with a large footprint in Las Colinas. If the talk's true, say the brokers queried, it's a smart move on Insignia's part.
