The development, called Riverside, will take the form of an extension to the existing Marlowes shopping centre, fronting on to the River Gade. The application is for a 90,000-sf department store; two large shop units, possibly including a food store; 18 shop units; restaurants; a 100-bed hotel; 45 apartments and 355 car parking spaces.
Subject to planning, work could start on site in 2002 with completion expected at the end of 2004. Crest Nicholson says it is already in discussions with an operator for the department store.
