The first phase of the 12-month project is scheduled to begin this month with interior demolition and a building cleanout program. The Strand was the first of six entertainment palaces to be built in Pontiac in the 1920s. during that era.

The Strand complex comprises the theater and two adjacent two-story retail buildings. The three buildings will be integrated to create a30,000-sf theater center in the heart of the city.

The new center will include a 600-seat historic theater, performance space, a jazz area, a digital screening room and upper and lower grand lobby areas.
