The purchase, from the state Department of Transportation, includes a fuel depot and a vehicle-impound lot. The City plans to spend an additional $420,000 on renovations to the building. It also plans to generate some revenue by leasing a communications tower on the site.
The police department is slated to move 40 employees from its 8,500-sf space at 300 13th St. in spring 2002. The 13th Street building will remain in police hands as the department's West Precinct.
