The Scottsdale restaurant will take the chain to 56 teppanyaki restaurants that are open or under development, according to a company statement. The signing coincides with a new franchise pact to construct restaurants in Peru and Trinidad and the chain's opening of its 17th franchised site in Venezuela, says Joel A. Schwartz, Benihana president.
Meanwhile, Benihana is ramping up for openings in Texas. Those restaurants will open in the spring at Las Colinas, an upscale community near Dallas, and the Woodlands, a 27,000-acre development near Houston. Also in the development stage are restaurants in Westbury, NY and Edison, NJ. Benihana currently operates 60 restaurants in 19 states.
"With Scottsdale, Benihana's new restaurant development program continues to move forward and represents our commitment to continue to grow the company consistent with our goal of increasing profits and maximizing value," said Schwartz. The Scottsdale restaurant will open this year.
