"There's some trepidation since it's the first time we've moved the office," Bernard P. "Bud" Malone, president, tells GlobeSt.com. But in the end, it will be worth it, he promises. The finish-out is being designed to accommodate 50 employees although Malone isn't quite sure when extra staff will be added.
The lock, stock and barrel move takes the firm from class B space to class A space and keeps employees in the same general vicinity. Malone, in fact, can see the new location from his Preston Center office.
Malone shares the same "trepidation" about moving as his staff since he has had his office at 8214 Westchester Dr. for the past 12 years, opening the doors first as a law office and converting a year later to mortgage banking and commercial real estate lending. Still, the move is needed so the staff can be together on one floor instead of two.
"It's a great building, a great location," says Malone's broker, Bo Bowman, vice president of Dallas-based Swearingen Realty Co. LLC. "And, it was a fun transaction to work on." Equity Office Properties, the building owner, used in-house representative Jessie O'Brien to negotiate the deal.
