The mixed-income development will include 465 rental and 299 townhouse units. Tenants will be split evenly among those in public housing as well as those paying affordable and market rates. Plans also call for retail development, as well as parks and schools.
"This progressive, thoughtful plan is the product of years of negotiation with residents and community leaders," says CHA CEO Terry Peterson. "This is really the community's vision coming to life."
Construction of the housing units will be phased to reduce relocation of residents, CHA officials say.
