GlobeSt.Com has learned that the lease process was concluded in a remarkably short period of time. Search for space began only after the September 11 terrorist attacks on the Pentagon, at which point the Park Service's original relocation plans were changed.
The department is vacating their current headquarters, which is dispersed between the Department of the Interior on C Street and leased space on North Capital Street. The Department of the Interior is scheduled to undergo renovations, so Park Services was eager to find its own space and to be able to consolidate its headquarters under one roof.
