Iris USA hopes to fire up its production line in September on its third US manufacturing site. The initial plan calls for 120 jobs at the 37-acre location in the Skyline Village section of Mesquite. At least another 100,000 sf will be added "when the market and success dictate," Mack Shinagawa, Iris USA's operations director, tells GlobeSt.com.
Iris USA, a plastic injection molding company, headed to North Texas in part to be close to its long-time customer, Dallas-based Container Store. The decision, say those involved with the deal, was mortared by the region's geographic positioning in the US, a few tax incentives from Mesquite, highway access and strong labor pool. "Strategically, it's a very advantageous site," Shinagawa stresses. The project site is located on the southwest quadrant of Interstate 635 and Texas 80.
Aquirre & Thomas Architects of Dallas designed the facility for the Japan-based Iris Ohyama's US operation. The US arm includes manufacturing locations at its Pleasant Prairie headquarters and Stockton, CA.
Cushman & Wakefield of Texas Inc.'s Dallas office is assisting with the ground-breaking. The team of Jack Fraker, Randy Baird, Susan Pausky and Mari Hinojosa negotiated the November 2001 land acquisition on the buyer's behalf while C&W's Gary Collett represented the seller. The high-profile sale carried a high-profile seller, whose identity is being kept to the bare minimum–a retirement trust of a major Dallas-area corporation.
