It's also continuing a trend that began since limited stakes gambling was launched in three mountain communities in 1991. Every year, revenues rose.

In 1992, the first full year of gaming in Cripple Creek, Black Hawk and Central City, the casinos generated $180 million in revenues. At that time, casinos were mostly found in retrofitted mom-and-pop storefronts.

Since then, a number of huge gaming facilities have been built, most notably in Black Hawk, which has the lion's shares of the revenues.

Last year, Black Hawk's casinos boated $478.3 million in revenues, a 10% jump from 2000.
