Posner moved to Miami Beach from Baltimore in 1954 and acquired millions in real estate assets in South Florida but his takeovers and takeover attempts of companies such as Royal Crown Cola, Sharon Steel and Fischbach Corp. of New York garnered the headlines.
In its most recent Florida real estate developments, Victor Posner Enterprises was building a 590-unit luxury apartment complex on Executive Center Drive in West Palm Beach as well as 21 high-end homes at Ballen Isles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens.
In Central Florida, Posner made news in January 2000 when he paid Busch Entertainment Corp. of St. Louis $13 million or $32,000 per acre (74 cents per sf) for the 405-acre former Boardwalk and Baseball theme park at Interstate 4 and U.S. 27 at Haines City, FL. That location is 50 miles south of Downtown Orlando.
The park has been closed since 1990. Posner didn't redevelop the site but the Kansas City Royals continue to use a portion of the property as a spring training camp.
