When a federal jury in December 2000 found her and former colleague Jerry Burch guilty of the SEC charges, Yun's net worth was $3.6 million, according to court records.
U.S. District Judge Ann Aldrich in Tampa, FL has ordered Yun and Burch to repay the government $269,000, Burch's alleged profit on Scholastic Corp. stock he purchased in 1997 on an alleged tip from Yun.
Yun's husband is David Yun who retired as president of Scholastic Book Fairs in 1999. Scholastic Book Fairs is a Lake Mary, FL-based subsidiary of New York-based Scholastic Corp. David Yun is not involved in the SEC charges.
The SEC lawsuit alleges Yun told Burch that Scholastic Corp. stock would be falling in 1997. Burch then purchased options to acquire the stock.
Yun, however, maintains in court-filed depositions that Burch overheard a confidential telephone conversation she was having with her husband and that she did not feed the information to Burch.
Burch is discussing bond terms with the SEC, according to court files. Both Yun and Burch are liable for the $269,000 judgment.
