In North America, Best Western will sign 155 hotels including properties in New York City; North Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Orlando and Tampa, FL; Columbus, OH; Montreal, Quebec; and Winnipeg, Manitoba. Plans call for 30% of the projects to be new construction and 70% of the projects to be branding conversions of existing hotels.

Internationally, Best Western hopes to bring in 30 Best Westerns in Australia; 22 in South America; 20 in France; 15 in Great Britain; 14 in Asia; and 10 each in New Zealand and Germany.

"Despite the slowdown in the hospitality industry worldwide, we believe Best Western is well-positioned as a strong, value brand in the development market," says Suzi MacDonald, vice president of international operations.

Best Western will open its first Chinese location with a 285-room conversion hotel in Xiamen in Southeast China. "We are also looking at adding a 295-room, new construction hotel in Beijing this October," MacDonald adds.
