The new office--and Sohmer's appointment--are part of IESG's strategy of expanding its reach further into the Garden State. "We are very optimistic about the growth prospects of our Central New Jersey operations," says Patrick Murphy, executive director of the company's New Jersey operations, based in Saddle Brook.

Part of the firm's expansion, of course, is the strategic alliance it formed last year with Buschman Partners, a dominant player in the Princeton area market. That alliance is expected to turn into a full merger within the next two years.

At Grubb & Ellis, Sohmer received the company's Circle of Excellence designation, awarded to the top 10% of brokers nationally, for five years running. Before his stint at G&E, he was a vice president with Sitar Realty in Iselin, NJ a real estate manager at Purolator Courier in Basking Ridge, NJ and a lease negotiator with AT&T Information Systems, also in Basking Ridge.
