Baker also serves as the chairman of the metropolitan districts that built Coors Filed and Invesco Field at Mile High.

Baker also created a foundation that is raising money to build a large athletic facility in Lakewood for youths. The foundation has sponsored 20,000 children, many of them from at-risk family environments, with the idea of building their confidence and leadership abilities through sports.

Baker also coached one of the state's top girl high school softball teams in Lakewood.

Owens, who was suffering from laryngitis and bronchitis, still made a point of introducing Baker, who he described as a close friend, as well as a leading businessman and a good and caring citizen.

After the award ceremony, GlobeSt.com asked Baker how he could do so much volunteer work and still find time to make money in real estate. ''You know, I find the more time I spend out of the office, the less money we lose,'' Baker quipped.
