Schadegg Mechanical recently said it has been awarded the mechanical HVAC work for the jail, which is expected to open late in 2003.
The 276-cell jail will be located in an industrial area northeast of Downtown, near theintersection of Interstates 94 and 35E. The complex also will house four courtrooms and administrative offices for the sheriff's staff.
The facility replaces the 137-cell jail on the Mississippi River in Downtown St. Paul. That site will be available for development.
The St. Paul Police Department considered building a new headquarters next to the Ramsey County facility, but has since backed off those plans.
