Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc., owned by Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of the late singer, is preparing a court battle with EPR Enterprises LLC over the name of the proposed project, Elvis Presley Ranch.
In published reports, Elvis Presley Enterprises maintains using the singer's name in the planned project is illegal and would also hurt sales at Graceland, the commercial centerpiece of the singer's estate. The company also manages Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel and a restaurant in Memphis.
EPR representatives contend the Circle G Ranch is described in the property's recorded deed as Elvis Presley Ranch, giving them a legal right to use that name.
EPR plans to build 650 condos, two hotels, two 18-hole golf courses, a convention center, museum, three wedding chapels, an indoor amusement park with a racing cart track and a 53,000-sf replica of Elvis' dream house. Ground-breaking is scheduled for Aug. 16, the 25th anniversary of the entertainer's death. Completion is anticipated by 2004.
