Pier 1, as it's called, was built in 1931 as a 90,000-sf waterfront warehouse and distribution center for the C&H Sugar Refining Corp. As part of the redevelopment, Pier 1 was expanded to 151,000 sf by "floating" a mezzanine over the ground floor without altering the original exterior architectural design.
