An insider tells GlobeSt.com that a replacement for the 43-year-old Byrne will be named Tuesday. Rumblings of a rift between the executive board and Byrne are circulating. NTCAR president David Hicks and president-elect Bob Young were not available for comment to discuss the actions that led to the vacancy.

In an interview yesterday, Byrne would not confirm if the parting was amicable, but instead chose the tried-and-true line that he "is pursuing other things." Choosing his words carefully, he emphasized that "everything is fine. It's a good board and they're going to move forward and do great."

Byrne says his job search, though, will be for a position outside the commercial real estate community. He added he's "not in a bind and it's not that big of an issue."

Byrne, a veteran of the nonprofit arena, was brought on board in late December 2000 to steer an expansion bid. He pushed for new members in North Texas while striking an alliance with brokers in Central Texas and was headed to Houston for the same kind of play at the time of his departure. His 2001 efforts also drove record attendance at many NTCAR events, including brokers' bus tours.

Byrne replaced Philip Ola, who failed to get a contract renewal after one year on the job. Ola reportedly was weak in corporate fundraising, an insider said at the time.
