The City Council has amended existing rules to allow the shops to be housed in light industrial zones, although they still must be at least 750 feet away from schools, churches, daycare facilities, libraries, parks and residential zones.

The council decided to allow for the expansion of such facilities because it feared its existing adult establishment ordinance might not provide enough places of operation and could be open to legal challenges.

The city now has seven adult retail and entertainment facilities in operation, and six of those were ordered to relocate when the adult establishment ordinance initially passed a year ago. This week's council action gave them more opportunities for relocation.
