A spokesperson for the University, Alison Duffy, tells GlobeSt.com that the university will lease the site from the state's Department of Capital Asset Management. Franklin Place, a development company that has development rights on part of the parcel, will develop the lab. The lab building will be an anchor building for the site. Duffy says that it is unclear what else was being developed on the parcel, adding, "The plans are not finalized."
The university has a drug production facility in nearby Jamaica Plains, which it acquired five years ago, but Duffy says that it is over capacity at this point. "They are pressed in how much they can produce there because of the size," she notes. "There is a need for this."
