Advised by Cluttons, the council has invited eighth developers to make proposals: Crest Nicholson Properties and Sainsbury Property Company; Friends Ivory & Sime/Friends Provident; Wilson Bowden Development; Berkeley Homes; Countryside Properties; Sellar Property Group; The Raven Group and Grainger Trust.
Cluttons Senior Surveyor Nik Dockree said: 'The East Street development brief, which echoes the sentiments of national planning policy guidance, is specifically designed to bring both commercial and recreational activity to the area and, in particular, improve access to and from other parts of Farnham town centre.'
Two of the shortlisted developers--Sainsbury's and Friends Provident--already have adjoining landholdings, which could allow them to create an even larger scheme, but all now have until July 2002 to prepare schemes and come forward with bids.
