The plan commission Thursday gave favorable recommendations to both projects, which use long-neglected sites.
The 8.2 acres in West Rogers Park "used to be an old storage tank" for People's Gas Co., says 50th Ward Alderman Bernard Stone. Environmental remediation was needed, he adds, to make the land ready for residential development.
The single-family homes will be priced from $900,000 to $2 million, according to developer Regent Park City Homes, LLC, while the townhouses will carry price tags in the $575,000 to $675,000 range.
By comparison, the Lakeview project is much smaller, using a 9,700-sf lot that had been vacant for 15 years and had once been considered a potential park site. The one- and two-bedroom condominiums will be built in three eight-unit buildings and a four-flat.
