Williams will be devoting more of his time to his extensive charitable work, which includes being on the board of directors or advisory board for 24 organizations. His primary focus, says an insider, will be dedicated to the Foundation for Community Empowerment, an organization he founded six years ago as a comprehensive renewal initiative for low-income neighborhoods. He has been accorded numerous prestigious awards for his charitable work, including the Tom Unis Valuing Diversity Award in 2001.
Williams joined Dallas-based Trammell Crow in 1973 as a partner in charge of overseas operations. He became CEO in 1977 and served in that role until a 1994 appointment to chairman.
Since the change closely follows a lengthy reorganization, the insider says it's highly unlikely that any more change will arise from the chairmanship shift. Sulentic's new role shouldn't come as any surprise since he started climbing the corporate ranks just three years after he was hired as an industrial leasing agent in Houston. In 1987, he became project partner for southern New Jersey and took over several lead posts in the northeast. His 1991 role as managing director of the Philadelphia division led to his appointment in 1995 as the firm's northeast president. September 1998 put him in as CFO in Dallas followed by his selection two years later as president and CEO of the entire operation.
The company's annual meeting in May also starts the reign of Jeffery M. Heller, former vice chairman of EDS, lead director of the board. The move up takes effect at the final tap of the gavel to close the annual meeting.
