International air cargo, which has continued to post gains over last year, dropped in March. Totaling 1.3 million pounds in March, it was down 56% from March 2001. For January through March, it totaled four million pounds, a 14% drop from last year.

Total air cargo traffic tumbled 43% for March 2002, with 22.8 million pounds. Last year, Austin shipped a record 40.2 million pounds. For the first three months of 2002, air cargo is off 30% from last year.

The 596,239 passengers that went through the airport in March were 135,000 more than in January. Passenger traffic increases in March because of events like South by Southwest music, film and interactive festivals. But compared to 2001, passenger traffic was down 12%. Through March, passenger traffic fell 15% to 1.5 million.
