An independent study by Hammer, Siler, George Associates based in Washington, D.C., found it will create 34,800 jobs by 2010 and 68,800 jobs when completed; create $3.1 billion annually in activity by 2010 and $6.3 billion upon completion. It will cost $4 billion to construct 15 million sf on the 578-acre site.
Fitzsimons, a former Army hospital along East Colfax Avenue, will include a new 227-acre campus for the university of Colorado's hospital and health sciences center, but also the $400-million, 37-acre new headquarters for the Children's Hospital, which will be moving from east of the Central Business District in the Uptown neighborhood.
The project will include a 160-acre biotech park, already home to 17 start-ups and four academic groups.
