Those signing on include GeneProt Inc., a biotech research company, and Ortec International a tissue engineering company, which have taken four of the lab units each. Aero Pharm Inc., an inhalation drug delivery systems firm, has taken one of the lab units.Seven lab units remain available, with leases pending on several of them, according to Anthony R. Coscia, chairman of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, which owns the complex.
"There has been a substantial amount of early interest and leasing activity in the Commercialization Center," confirms Caren Franzini, EDA executive director. "It was designed to provide the cost-effective laboratory space that young companies, especially those involved in biotechnology and life sciences, need."
The Commercialization was built with the help of a $4 million legislative appropriation and a $100,000 grant from the NJ Commission on Science and Technology. It is managed for the EDA by the New Jersey Institute of Technology's Enterprise Management Group.
Altogether, the larger Technology Centre has seen a total of more than $100 million worth of investment by EDA and the campus's tenants. The site has a total building capacity of about 600,000 sf, according to EDA officials.
