The REIT refused to disclose the buyer's name until it appears in SEC records.
The communities included Briar Club (272 units); Cinnamon Trails (208 units); Dogwood Creek (278 units); and Hunters Trace (192 units).
United still owns two apartment communities in Memphis-the 376-unit Trails at Kirby Parkway and the 630-unit Trails at M. Moriah. The properties are under contract to the same undisclosed buyer who is awaiting lender approval. The sale is expected to close in June.
