The £150 million redevelopment will form a new southern gateway to bath city centre on the site of the existing Southgate Centre with links into the bus and rail stations. The scheme will be anchored by a department store and a food store, with a range of shops supported by a new public transport interchange, residential and leisure space, arranged around a series of new streets and spaces. The developers' target is to start work on site in early 2004 implying completion in Spring 2008.

Morley Fund Management director Jim Drysdale said: 'We look forward to bringing to fruition a scheme that will complement Bath's World Heritage status and maintain its position as a leading tourist destination.'

Architects for the development are Chapman Taylor and Wilkinson Eyre. Commercial advisors are Strutt & Parker and planning consultants are Drivers Jonas.
